DISCUSSION GATHERED COMMUNITY LEADERS TO CONNECT WITH FAIR DEAL PANELISTS ABOUT FORT MCMURRAY AND THE WOOD BUFFALO REGION
Hines Health Services hosted a gathering of the minds on Wednesday when the Fair Deal Alberta Panelists joined with community leaders from our region to discuss the interests of Fort McMurrayites.
“It’s an honour to be able to host an event like this and showcase our facility,” said Hines Health Founder and Director Kristi Hines. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to bring community members together in a new setting.”
Hines Health Services recently relocated from downtown to a new office on Memorial Drive. The new space, subleased from Telus, brings Hines Health closer to industry – and their clients. With 3,500 square feet, the new space was perfect for hosting the almost 50 guests attending this intimate gathering. Wood Buffalo Economic Development CEO Kevin Weidlich hosted, and several of the Fair Deal panelists spoke, including Panel Chair Oryssia Lennie.
The Fair Deal Panel is a provincial committee touring Alberta, connecting with citizens to determine what issues matter most to Albertans, and how Albertans want to be represented in the federation. They’re exploring how to give Alberta a bigger voice nationally, how to increase power over provincial matters, and how to advance the economic interests of Albertans. The panel discussion took place in advance of the RMWB’s Town Hall meeting and included a presentation on Fort McMurray and the region by Wood Buffalo Economic Development’s Lisa Sweet.
In addition to the Fair Deal Panelists (Preston Manning, Stephen Lougheed, Chief Jason Goodstriker, Donna Kennedy-Glans, Tany Yao, Miranda Rosin, Drew Barnes, Moin Yahya) the event also included city councillors Balsom, Lalonde, Murphy, and Stroud, as well as Mayor Don Scott. MLAs Laila Goodridge and Tany Yao were also in attendance. Councillor Charlyn Moore and Mayor Omer Moghrabi from Lac La Biche made the trek north to attend. In addition to these political leaders, the business sector was well represented at Wednesday’s event.
