NEW YEAR, NEW DRINKING HABITS

The Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction (CCSA) recently made updates to Canada’s Low-Risk Alcohol Drinking Guidelines based on the latest research and evidence. These new recommendations suggest that alcohol-related consequences to health are a potential cause for concern after as little as two drinks per week. This is a significant departure from the previously recommended 15 drinks for men and 10 for women. Another interesting development that has come from this new research, is that alcohol limit guidelines are the same for both men and women, again contrasting with recommendations made in 2011.

Over the last two decades, there has been a global shortage of nurses both in practice and academia. Did you know, the World Health Organization (WHO) is estimating a projected shortfall of 10 million health workers by 2030?! In recent times, this has been attributed to COVID-19, which has exacerbated the problem, however causational factors long predate the pandemic, and this outlook overlooks these important issues.
