Driver Medicals

Driver Medicals

The purpose of a driver’s medical is to screen for medical or physical conditions
that may interfere with the operation of a motor vehicle. These medicals are
completed by a physician and are required for any person who applies for, or is
renewing a class 1, 2, or 4 driver’s license. For these medicals, a Medical
Examination for Motor Vehicle Operators form must be completed and then
returned to an Alberta Registry Agent office.

The medical includes the following:
1. Visual Acuity
2. Hearing
3. Cardiovascular/Cerebrovascular assessment
4. Nervous system assessment
5. Respiratory assessment
6. Metabolic system assessment
7. Psychiatric Disorders
8. Other history or evidence of any other disorders listed in the Canadian
Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA)
